Very interesting talk with Prof.Dr. Sandra Eifert (Professor of Heart Surgery and Gender Medicine at Leipzig Heart Center, University of Leipzig) about Gender Medicine. Gender differences have been neglected for many years. Especially in the case of cardiovascular diseases, these differences play a major role. Heart attack is the number one cause of death among women. If you look at diseases of the heart you will see that women’s hearts beat differently. Although two-thirds of patients with cardiovascular disease in the Western world are men, women are twice as likely to die from the disease.
